Who you are

Hi! I am SmokingPuddle58, a fresh graduate from the HKUST, majoring in Mathematics (Computer Science Track) (with an Extended Major in Artificial Intelligence). Currently, I am working as a Research Assistant at GREAT Smart Cities Institute (GSCI) at HKUST.

Experiences?

HKUST GSCI

I am currently a Research Assistant (RA) at GREAT Smart Cities Institute (GSCI) at HKUST. I work closely with multi-disciplinary team members to develop scalable solutions that integrate with traffic simulation software.

Wafer Systems (Asia) Limited

Before getting this job, I had an internship experience when I was year 3, working at a company called Wafer Systems (Asia) Limited as a summer programmer trainee. The company is currently working on the Smart Library System (SLS) project for the Hong Kong Public Libraries. During the internship experience, I was actually doing more testing than programming. Anyway I did learn some soft skills and the internship experience was quite fun.

HKUST

When I was year 4, I applied for the student helper at Math Support Centre (MSC) at HKUST. It was actually just a coincidence, since I was just looking at the recruitment email Math department sent to me. After I clicked into the link it then says the application was successful. Anyway after some interview I get this job. It was fun to teach other students on some basic calculus and linear algebra courses although the job was quite busy and low paid.

What skills you know

I am quite good at Python and some of the C++ due to the courses I took in HKUST. I am also learning some frontend languages including TypeScript and React.

For the Math side, I am good at LaTeX typing and have typed some notes with LaTeX.

Hobbies?

I love rhythm games, mainly Maimai DX and Chunithm. Before playing them, I also play osu! STD. All of them are fun rhythm games but just Maimai and Chunithm are funnier (Animal Farm reference).

Projects?

There are plenty of projects I have done during my university life. Some of them are course projects while some of them are just for fun. Even me cannot remember how many side projects I have.

Languages?

I’m native in Mandarin and that’s my mother tongue. My Cantonese is native also since I studied here for many years. At least most people assume I am a locally born local until they see my name. My English is also at quite a good level, thanks to HKUST’s CLE education :).
